Navigating diagnostic uncertainty in children’s chronic pain - strategies from podiatrists.

About

This case-based vignette study was conducted with 8 focus groups of podiatrists. This study aimed to understand the language and clinical management strategies used by podiatrists to address the pain experience of children with chronic lower limb pain. A secondary aim was to investigate if and how the language and clinical management strategies used by allied health professionals to address the pain experience of children with chronic lower limb pain vary based on the level of diagnostic uncertainty. Podiatrists were shown 3 separate vignettes of children with chronic lower limb pain and asked to discuss their level of uncertainty and the language and management strategies that they would use to explain the child’s pain to the child and their family
